Hiscox Insurance has been in existence now for well over 100 years. They started back in 1901 as the Roberts agency. There sole purpose back then was to underwrite marine insurance for Lloyds. Now a days of course they offer so much more including specialized insurance policies that over fine art, kidnapping and natural disasters.
The company itself has gone through many changes. It 1987 in merged with Hiscox Syndicates Ltd and Roberts and Hiscox Ltd to create a holding company. In 1989 it formed the Hiscox Underwriting LTD part of the company. However in 1994 Hiscox Holdings de-merged. This was followed on in 1996 with the formation of Hiscox PLC.

It was in 2000 that they launched their Hiscox online service and became the first ever company to over insurance for value homes online. It was in 2006 that they moved the company from the UK to Bermuda and became known as Hixcox LTD.
